Wonderful place

We stayed at the Hotel Sian Ka’an (meaning ‘Origin of the Sky’) in Mexico (Riviera Maya) booked through TUI. Wow! What a beautiful hotel and complex. Adults only, relaxing, quiet, and no problems are getting a sunbed poolside. There is not a beach next to the hotel complex but a very short buggy ride to one of the other compounds, and you are there, we aren’t big beach dwellers, so Sian Ka’an was perfect with its four pools, one of which has 2 or 3 jacuzzis.

The rooms are spacious, huge bed, sofa, and table. Air conditioning a godsend, our room was lovely and fresh, a sanctuary from the blazing heat outside and the domestic staff make your bed, clean your room and change your towels daily, oh a lovely chap comes and restocks the refrigerator every day too with beer, soft drinks, crisps, miniature spirits (vodka, Bacardi, and whiskey).

The restaurants cater to everyone if you can’t find something you like then (you are either far too fussy, or you need to take the sunglasses off) book one of the many; at least a dozen a la carte restaurants.

The hotel complexes are super on hygiene; food is very regularly temperate tested, staff amazing with the flyboard in cozumel tour suggestion, wear hairnets, samples taken by their hygiene supervisors and quite rightly, so all guests have to use hand gel before being shown to a table (I’ve seen lots of walkers not washers in the Male toilets).

You have access to 3 other hotel complexes Coba, Tulum, and Akumal, they have thought of everything, you hop onto one of the very many and very regular buggies, and you’re at the complex you want. They will even drive you to the a la carte restaurant you’ve booked! Fabulous services and the staff are super attentive, polite, and always have a smile on their faces.

There is entertainment throughout the day in or around the pools or volleyball at the beaches. In the evenings there is entertainment, the acts act at the Sian Ka’an are excellent especially the Circus (no lions, tigers, elephants or horses, there is enough wildlife around), Rock Group and the ABBA tribute. There is lots of entertainment going on in the lively pool with aerobics, water volleyball and pool darts (which I was particularly bad at), the entertainment staff is excellent, thank you.

As you would expect to have the Yucatan jungle around us, there is plenty of wildlife to see. It truly is paradise. There are mosquitos so make sure you have a repellant (the jungle formula one is like a pheromone to these pesky insects, and you turn into an all you can eat buffet!). The hotel shop sells a can of ‘off’ which works.
